some advice needed please. My tank is now 9 weeks old has been running well. i do all the regular maintenance. Weekly water changes 25l, i have a 250l system (red sea) Clean skimmer 1-2 times a week. i have the following inhabitants. 1 foxface, 2 small clowns, 2 small royal gammas. 2 zoa, a green star polyp and blue mushroom. clean up blue legged hermit, sand sifting star and blood shrimp. Water parameters are fine except for PH which is 7,4. Nitrates, nitrites, ammonia and phosphates are 0 or close to that. This week i did a water change on wednesday and then again yesterday to try and correct, but has had little effect. PH remains at 7,4 and i have this bad outbreak of brown algae, which has been around for 2 weeks.
Could it be related to the fact that a couple of weeks ago i did a salt water, water change in stead of the usual RO+RED SEA SALT home made mix.
The inhabitants of my tank seems fine and are still eating well. i feed flakes 2 times a day. should i cut down on feeding?
i have also added prodibio to boost bacteria.
    Any suggestion ideas?
    Craig

    What is your KH?
    What chemicals are you dosing?

    Ph7.4

kh is 6. Only add biodigest and biotim, since last week. I use red sea test kits and compare to dip stix.

what did you use for the water change?

Your KH is a little low, try raising it a bit.
Perhaps get your LFS to check your pH with a pH pen.

That ph reading sounds unreasonably low.
Dont think your fish would survive if your ph remained that low for long.

I'd first double check all measurements before doing anything.
If ph and alk are that low, I'd start slow kalk dosing - 1/2 teaspoon per day

    Ph 7.4

    Will check again.
I used to get RO water and then mix salt at home. 2 weeks ago i purchased ready mixed salt water.
Just checked PH and its still 7.8 and kh8, could be due to water change yesterday.
Should i add kalk, do i just get at LFS?
    THANKS

slowly getting there then. Adding kalk will help (use slurry method), you can get it from the LFS or from a chemist (sold as slaked lime).

LS looking good. Everything is fine. Perhaps my test kit is contaminated. From what I have read (thanks to all above) is calcium is often linked with ph. My calcium is over 500. So my ph should also be high. I am not adding calcium

    FEEDBACK PH7.4 , with algae

Some feedback on the above issue. after a week, i have managed with your input and advice to get my PH to 7,2 and KH to 6,4. Calcium is 390. Tank looking better. still have the algae, but is improving. Bought an electronic continuos PH meter. THis way i will always know the PH.
    Thanks again
