hi guys. i just found a patch of pest star polyps on a piece of my LR.
    Brown with curling fingers.
how han i best remove them without them spreading?

i got the rock a while back from a guy who had a serious problem with these polyps. the rock came from his sump. so my geuss is a spore from his "infected" main tank made it thru to that rock as i bought it.
its not the worst looking thing, but i've seen how fast it spreads and i want none of that!!

Star polyps will easily scrape off of a rock. The purple mat will easily lift and peel off

it doesnt look like they have a mat even. and are def not purple.
it looks like they are growing close together. but that each polyp is an individual. they arent linked like normal polyps are with a mat

remove the rock - then you should be able to use a knife to remove the polyps off the rock by prying them off with the knife... Just takes time and a delicate hand mate. See if you can spare them, maybe some other reefer would like a star polyp tank ;)
