I have bought perspex to cover my overflow box and I wanna cut slots into it to stop fish ending up in the sump...Does anyone have any idea how wide these slots should be??

    5 - 10mm??

    Thanks
    Rob

I have done the same with the slots 5mm in my case and I have not had a fish going over the overflow since it was fitted. I think 6mm should also be OK.

The slots on combs is 2.5mm
As in those you buy at some LFS.

Helluva job if u are doing it with a Dremel. I'm sure the guys in the bigger cities will be able to have the cutting done with laser without spending an arm and a leg.

buy the aquamedic weir comb and cut to the size you need.
silicone the base to the overflow and the comb is removable for washing.
    they are about R90 - R100 for a 30cm length.

I had one made up to my specs by a perspex company. They bent and cut the slots in it. My overflow box has 8mm wide perspex fingers with 5mm wide slots cut out. This works well for me.

Ya I ended up cutting 10mm slots and left 10mm fingers, looks fairly good and hoping it works well in stopping fish ending up in my sump..

Thanks for all your inputs though, much appreciated.
