    Howzit Guys...

My stand is in need over a coat of paint...

Only problem is that my tank is running...

I wish to paint with Hammerite...Is it safe to do this while the tank is running?

    Cool

Yeah it will be fine, just make sure you have enough ventilation. Open up the windows, cover up your sump, flat the existing paint with some emery paper, and let rip.

I'm free this weekend, you need some elbow grease help?

with fish in the system, I would rather not paint the stand. Your concern on the skimmer is valid.

You can extend the skimmer intake to another room or even outside.

But I would not paint so close to the running tank.

agree with Riaan here, I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before at all, But I'm looking to paint my stand with the rubberizing spray they use on the back of bakkies to do my stand, but not with livestock in in the tank.

A few years ago my landlord decided to paint the house we then stayed in without any notice. I covered the tank with a couple of duvets. I switched off the skimmer, turned of some of the flow pumps to have less surface agitation.I also added an airstone from a pump I placed outside. Lastly I opened all windows and doors and had a couple of fans blowing away from the tank. I didnt lose any livestock. Dont recommend this but I did this as I had no choice. Sure its a bit of overkill but rather safe than sorry.

I painted my stand last year while my tank was running. Just turned my skimmer off and opened up all the windows/doors and had some fans to circulate the air and remove the smell.
No harm to the tank at all.
