Does anyone have experience using ozone?

Can I use ozone without a controller to monitor the ORP?

Someone said I can just monitor the water clarity.:032:

All depends on Ozone output and tank size. I personaly would not recomend using without a monitor/controler as you could wipe out your tank.

Agree....tanks are different in terms of stocking and filtration levels.....you go over 450, and you could come close to killing all life in your tank.

I saw a reading of 500 the other day another tank no issues with the live stock. I do know some say 350 is high & others say 450 is high? not enough facts I could find on what is really dangerous?

I get worried if I go near 450

that is why the controller takes out the risk of it rising too much....I set mine to shut at 450

I have read that before & like he says there is so much that could cause the reading to be out :( but it's good to use an orp probe as a safety measure

Hey thx for this guys, I have been looking into getting a Ozone Generator for water clarity.

You can use Ozone for 2 different reasons.
    • To push ORP to 420-450 and keep it there
    • To clear the water
    Results and usage is different.

If you want ORP high and keep it there, that means you MUST have an ORP controller fitted. This will help with the water yellow, killing of bacteria (bye-bye UV light) and help with O2 levels in the tank. all that nice things discussed normally in the links given.

Else, like what I'm doing, if your primary objective is to get red of the yellow in the water, or the DOC, then you can run your Ozone on a timer. Mine now runs 45min in the morning. Also Vatso is running his on a timer (for now). If the ORP reading do not even get close to 400, (like mine) then no need to go all out for controllers.

If you look deeper into why I (and Vatso) are using Ozone, is to get rid of the DOC (Dissolved Organic compound) that give your water that yellow look. Less DOC in the water, the better light penetration you will have. Resulting that more light reach your corals and you can use T5's instead of MH (but that discussion also depends on a lot of other criteria).

Look at Vatso Profilux reading for Redox

382 when running one hour in the morning, and another at night.
No change of it suddenly jumping to dangerous levels.
