    Hi Guys

I know it may not be a marine but my mates Oxi swallowed a Pleco whole. The tail is still sticking out of its mouth.

We have been wondering how to get it out cause it is getting worse and worse each day (day 3 now)

    Please could someone help !!!

    You mean axolotl?

Can't really help though... I imagine trying to pull a fish out of something would result in damage to the thing that swallowed it.

Get a vet/surgeon to cut off all the pectorial fins & dorsal fins (of the pleco) - then you can pull the pleco, that should be dead - out.

this is a delicate procedure and I do not recommend you do it yourself.

Plecos have hectic spines on their fins. +1 to the vet idea.

There was a "fish doctor" vet a few years ago in the Randburg area - BUT forgot his name (OLD AGE?)

But Simon van der Spey was in Pretoria and I was told he went to the Sandton Area and are active @ the Casino's bird & reptile section - try and call them.

Suggestion - if you have to do it yourself (that is only recommended in extreme cases!!!)
Phone me at the shop and I will explain how I have done it. I have done it a few times with cichlids (never with Axolotls as they are black listed = illegal to keep) and found the actual cutting & removing the fish easy, but removing the spines and treating the infection was always difficult!!!

    Thanks Moolis

Don't think they are black listed as such... just need permits ;)

Spoke to nature conservation Des 2009 and at that time no permits was given out by them for axolotl's - excluding the Zoo's.

That was what they told me. So my understanding are that they are all illegal if they are in private possession.

I didn't like to say but I thought it would die, as rob said those pleco's have some serious fins that I think would have caused some major damage.

We had two of them many many years ago. Had them for about 3 or 4 years. Fascinating creatures. They are amphibian. Used to come out of the water and sit on a rock. Fed them little pieces of fish. No much else if I remember correctly. That was about 23/24 year ago.
