I have been using bio cubes for about 3wks and noticed my Ca remains stable and not dropping. In the past i used to dose both ca and alkalinity. Could this be because of the cubes?

I doubt it, they are a carbon source.

In the past, did your Ca level drop? Did you dose to replenish consumed Ca? Or did you dose because the instructions on the bottle told you to dose?
What is your calcification rate, daily consumption of Ca and alk?
The cubes, as Dallas said, a biological real estate with biologically available organic carbon, hardly any impact on Ca.

    Hi Ivan.
Yes, my Ca did drop by about 20 ppm per day, never checked consumption of alk, but dosed according to reef fusion instructions (1ml / 25l). alk was always stable at 10.5 dKH. Weird.

Sorry to hijack your thread new here but I have searched the web with no luck I just switch to Orca nitra guard bio cubes from bio pellets and with bio pellets I ran my alk stable at 8 dhK. Is this the same for the bio cubes or can I raise my alk again? When I started running bio pellets I was using Red Sea coral pro salt and found the tips of my sps looked bleached. On another forum a member there told me to run my alk at 7 or 8 dKH. So I switched salt to aquavitro salinity and got my alk down to 8 and problem solved. So I just wanted to know if this also applied for the bio cubes. Here in Canada there isn't much info.

Hi DerekL, The Alk is more linked to the NO3 in your tank. When you run Low nutrient systems it is best to run ALK below 10 dKH. You are running at 8 dKH I would keep it there is i where you.

interested in whether the orca cubes can be used in a wet dry? i see tropic marin advocates using their biopellets called np-bacto tricks in a wet dry reactor- it has been mentioned protein skimmers degrade it quickly so bomb method better but wouldnt a wet dry be incredible flow and oxygen saturation as well?

@Gummi Bear. I have my cubes in a bag in the overflow box. I've had them there now for over a year now. Just replenished them a few months back. I've had no problems doing it this way.

Yes keeps the nitrate below 5ppm. I will take a short video of the tower for you so you can see how the flow through the trays and bio cubes is. The cubes are mostly always covered in water.

The tower is a glass structure that houses about 6 cat litter trays. These trays are stacked one above the other about 100mm apart. Holes are drilled in each tray so that the water, as it trickles through each tray, falls evenly to the next tray underneath. The number and size of the holes determines the flow rate through the tower. I have 2 buckets of bio cubes in the system.
So if you can imagine tray with bio cubes half full and a filter mat on the top. The water fills the tray keeping the cubes wet all the time. This keeps the cubes aerated with oxygen enriched water as the water falls through the tower.
