I am considering using this pump (Polario 22ML) as the main pump in my new tank

So far the advantages would seem to be

    low watt
single pump creates 2 different flow diirections
flow is random in direction and speed
this one pump will turn my water over at a rate of about 35 times an hour

I am really interested in people who currently have or have in the past used this pump....

I am considering using this in place of a CLS, how Nennie safe are these pumps?

    opinions good or bad please...

Why did you get rid of it SIMS?

i thought of extending the tube of the outlet on each side about 15cm and then putting the grating it comes with at the end of this thus the nennie would have a long way to travel when the pump was sucking for the 15 secs or so and should be blown out before it could hit the prop...?

I had WAY too much flow in my tank. I just got it to check it out. I found that running it with the covers off improved the flow alot.

Your idea may work for nennies.

Awesome, by the covers you are referring to the half moon directional type covers, not the grid ?

Was thinking if i did extend the pipe and drilled several holes in the pipe extention, if something were sucked over the main hole, the pressure would defuse to the sides, allowing for the flow to be reversed and not too much damage being done

Just check first if you can get a pipe that does fit over the polario, so that you can extend the lengths. I think it is a 63mm diameter. (I might be wrong) and not available everywhere. Also the covers will and do slow down the flow a lot.

also on the first batch especially, they had a problem with the little fan in the control unit. The fan made a big noise. Hopefully it is sorted now.

Last, not anemone safe. If it managed to suck the anemone in to the grid the first time, will it be able to blow it far enough away before it starts to suck again. And I doubt if smaller fish are safe, sleeping close by at night.

Neil, I have one. I bought it from Andrew (Millepora) when they first became available, and it has been giving me great performance ever since.

It DID have the noise problem when new. I opened the controller box, and confirmed that it was the tiny cooling fan making the noise - it appeared to be off balance, with perhaps some glue stuck to the blades. I was concerned that it would cause the unit to fail if/when the fan packed up, as was sure to happen within a month or two (I thought...). The noise DID stop after about two months or so, and because the controller box is mounted high up above the tank, I have not checked since to see if the fan is still running. The pump is still going strong, though, so either the controller does not need the fan, or the fan has settled in, and is no longer making a noise - either way, I'm happy with it, and can recommend this pump as far as performance and power consumption is concerned. I too would have expected such an expensive pump to perform without the noise problem, though...

We are using one in our 450 liter SPS sales/display aquarium. It is so strong that we needed to turn it way down!

It take only 15 to 20 seconds to move the whole water column around and again 15 to 20 seconds turn it all around the other way!

Noise, yes the pump is so strong you van actually hear the impeller during startup, but i had lots of other equipment that made a lot of noise and compared with that i think it is acceptable.

I think that if this is your only circulation pump, you will not be disappointed.

    Go for it...

You have seen the videos of my "chaotic water flow" created (mostly) by the Polario in this thread ?
