    Hey guys

Had this brain shipped to durban from @lanzo last week wednesday. Acclimatized it for 2 hours, and it was opening and happy the next day.

Last night I noticed it looked like some flesh was gone and the skeleton exposed on one side. Lights were off so I took some pics this morning:

Lights had just come on so were'nt expecting it to be open. But it definitely looks like it's dying :(

Parameters (did tests on Monday night):

    pH: 8.0
    kH: 8.6
    Mg: 1260:
    Ca: 450

Lighting is DIY LEDs - 42 * 3X CREE LEDs.

    Any ideas?

NO3 and PO4 levels? How deep is your tank, you might find that the lights are too strong and the coral is being burned. What fish do you have?

don't have test kits for NO3 and PO4 (well I did when I started the tank 4 years ago. never needed them again since then. Maybe i'll go buy some at lunch today).

    Tank is 500mm deep.

    Fish:

    Sailfin tang
    Lavender tang
    Regal tang
    Clown
    Cleaner wrasse
    Mandarin
    Lionfish
    Coral bandit shrimp

you can switch off the lights for few days to help the coral if the lights are burning it. if you have dimmable drivers reduce your lights to 15-20% for the next few days and see how it goes. also testing for NO3 and PO4 is a good idea

Get some test kits, if the rest of your corals look ok, then I doubt it's nutrients. Could be light shock. What test kits are you using at the moment and how old are they?

I have the same problem. Did some scaping and moved it, was happy for a few days then got the same thing and it didnt open. Moved it back to it's old spot yesterday and this morning it was more open again so looking better. Im also suspecting lights as the new spot was direct under the T5s whereas now it just gets some abient lights from the LEDs

Flow is often the issue. They don't like it.
