okay my tank has been running for more than a week now and i have positioned my inlet to make a disturbance on the water surface. yet the oil layer does not seem to go way. i do not have an overflow as it is only one of those Boyu 55L tanks. how can i get rid of this. i do have 2 clowns in and 1 cleaner shrimp. and they all seem to be very happy, but i do not like the look of the oil/dust on the water surface. i have not fed any frozen foods that are oily only pellets.

PS. i have added Seachem Prime to dissolve any nitrite/nitrate in the water. also add stability and phyto plankton for my pollops and zoa population. could this have anything to with the oil on the water surface? i know i have started a bit to fast on populating the tank but i couldnt help my self.

Tagging along, I have the same problem in my nano currently, my new tank is on it's way so I'm not setting up a skimmer on the temp setup.

I do a 50% water change once a month, the film is still there but otherwise tank look perfect.

I saw something like this, may have been the same thing at Exotic pets the other day.
I think it may have been an an aquaclear product.

in the meantime you can turn off pumps in tank and use a ladle or plastic cup. Holdimg it almost upright push into water until water reaches lip of cup and let it trixkle into cup. The surface tension will pull muck into cup

It was there where the hikari foods are, hanging on the side of that shelf.
I saw it there last week wednesday.

Thanks...I saw the pic but wasn't sure if it should be inside one of the Chambers, right behind the "intake grid", especially as it's described as "intake float" then also as it's mentioned as being a "Skimmer"......so for my Nano...I position this in the corner by the "intake"..?
