going to go for 6 days but i have taken 2 weeks off in case we need a little more time.. planning on doing some serious diving but surfing aswell seeing as its cyclone season.. (we surfers thrive in disaster type scenario's :)).

As for fish we willget a few this side of the border on the way home if the weather permits but its predominatly a little bit of a change from the norm that we are looking for..

you cant drive to Inhaca, its an island:) but if you get to santa maria on the northern pininsular then try get a dhow across to inhaca and snorkel the southern most section of inhaca on the bay side of the island.by far the best snorkelling i ever found and i did pretty much the entire coast :) the reefs off the beach at santa maria are very good too, but the locals are also very good swimmers so they hammer the reefs there.

some great rock and surf angling there too :)

They fine you for anything just because your a tourist and they need money.

    Hi Leslie

I just got back from Ponto last night, here's my thoughts / Advise.

1 - Get your 3rd party at the petrol station at Kosi bay (about 15km from border), the station on the left with the Steers.

2 - As you drive into Ponto, stop at Fernando's and have a R&R, 2 if you brave;)

3 - Try get some Metticas (there currency) as the exchange rate changes from shop to shop, and take only small denominations in Rands, as they never have change, so they say.

4 - Don't be scared to go to the local market (with a couple of people), we had dinner there on Saturday after watching the Rugby at Fernando's, a store on the corner about 3 or 4 rows up from Fernando's (path between Fernando's and the market). 6 of us ate 1.5 chickens, phuto and salad for R150. Flame grilled on their drum fire while we had a couple drinks at a bar 2 rows down. The night was quite and experience, and NO, we never got sick.

5 - Ponto Pinto's is the local jol, 200m up the road from Fernando's, heading out of town, colourful lights on the right, start hopping about 10PM onwards.

6 - The Supermarket just south of the petrol station is the best place to get Pao, local bread rolls, the best you'll ever have! The bottle store next door, the one on the right hand site (as there is 2) is the best place to get beers, R95 for 12pack 2M.

7 - Just remember, you are in there country, and its in AFRICA, nothing works properly, just to give you an idea, we when to the "harbour Master" for our permits, he was drunk as a skunk, but then again, so where we:p. you HAVE to turn off and just go with it, otherwise you won't enjoy the experience.

8 - Just remember, they live on tourism and they will try and charge you a fee for anything and everything, don't be fooled, most times its to line there own pockets. Rather speak to some others that are already there and check with them.

    Hey hey

also take plenty of purified water with

and a few bags of sweets for the local kids that hang on your car from time to time... the only way to get them off is to throw a few sweets or hard braking(not advisable)

diving is superb with over 10 different reefs to dive...

    otherwise it is awesome.....

    enjoy
