We have been using them for 3 years now - in a shop enviroment , they get shop soiled very quickly...

I you keep the dry , and use a decent globe , there great for there price.

Thanks guys, I actually replace the globes with ATI bought this weekend from Dane at Perky pets. Would they be ok for LPS and SPS. How would they compare with say a ATI sunpower, is there really much difference for all the money. I believe they are High Output.

    I have 4 x 39w over a 1200x600x500 tank LWH. Want to add a bit more light should I go 6 x 39w or 8 x 39w?

Hi Alan - Dane just told me you bought...

They will work for sps as well as long as the tank isnt too deep.
The ATI units are awsome though.
The individual reflectors make a huge differece !
The unit its self doesnt age like the oddasy , but its up to yopu if its in your budget.
Ask @459b for a non byest opinion...

4 x 39 watt will not be enough light at the edges of the tank - if you want a full sps - 4 x or more 54 watt will be best.

ATI units are excellent. Have had diy units and cheaper units before and you cannot compare them to the ATI's. Besides the individual reflectors, the fans probably make the most difference (T5 tubes work best in a certain temp range). Although they are pricey, they are worth it.

@Rossreefer there was a guy who won tank of the month here not so long ago. He had two 4x54w units and replaced the tubes with ati. It was either him or someone else but they tested the par and compared it to an ATI unit and there wasnt a difference in par.

I have a unit for a while now and its running strong. The original tubes are kak though. A mate of mine has two units and one of his ballasts burnt out and he doesnt have them for so long. I got mine for about 1.5years and its still running with the original tubes lol

when i kept planted tanks, i used The Odyssea T5 Units as it was what i could afford and not really what i wanted. like evryone says the tubes it comes with is no good.
My opinion, These units are cool to start off with if you starting out in the hobby or do not have lots of cash to spend on lights. you put good tubes in so they will do what you need em to do for now, but if you do see a future in this hobby for yourself, then start saving towards a better unit.

Hi guys still new at this but have a question.

Is it possible to replace the tubes inside the odysea dual units with Ati,s?

If so if I got another dual odysea unit with Ati,s would that be enough for a tank size of 960*500*560(h)?

Lastly how long should the lights be on for?

Right now I only have live rock and a poccilopora coral with trapezia crabs + two shrimps(cleaner & peppermint). My end goal is a reef tank.

    Thanks

    yes you can.
Just be careful. Those plastic crap that should hold the tubes in place breaks easily. I replaced mine with a wire loop.

Adding another unit, that would be enough.

Yes, Ideally you would like to have 6 tubes over that size tank and would be enough for SPS, minimum you should have is 4 tubes for softies.
