    Hey guys

I am planning on getting a NP Pellet reactor this weekend.
i was told that i can use a reef octous beginner as a rector, is this true as it is like half the price of the np reactor.

    PLEASE ADVISE.

You can use anything as long as the pellets are tumbling nicely and not clumping up.
Make sure you have a good skimmer or you may run into problems

what size system do you have.. you generally need a skimmer that is rated 30% more than your total system volume for use in conjunction with a carbon sorse dosing system.. this is to avoid the mulm entering the display..

IMO the TS1 wont cut it boet. They are not that efficient, you are looking for something like the new Reef Octo extreme 160..
What you are looking for is something with a needle wheel impellar and a bubble plate.. With carbon dosing, NP pellets and Neo Zeo you need good skimmers...

Now that is a great question.

Agreed that skimmer will be too small for carbon dosing you are going to run into problems if you use the pellets with that skimmer

Carbon dosing is dosing a carbon source like vodka/bio fuel/bioptim etc. The bacteria feed off the carbon and the attach themselves to nutrients and the skimmer pulls them out (very simplistic summary lol)

Neo zeo ..not too sure myself lol, I need to start researching.. but basically its great when you want a LNS or ULNS for sps. You have a reactor with zeo stones and I think its similar to NP pellets and bacteria live on the stones

All of these you need a good and efficient skimmer.. TS skimmers a nice skimmers but are more suited to more biological filtration methods. Search on masa for NP pellets and have a look at the guys set ups who are running NP pellets.. Those okes got some monster skimmers... I sometimes even wonder if my skimmer is good enough lol :)

I do agree that the Ts1 will maybe be to small...but if you wont have a big bio load and you want to keep Softies and Lps's then it should be fine.

A bigger skimmer will be better but a Ts1 will be the smallest you will be able to go
