I had some tropical aquariums in the past but I’m completely new to the marine aquarium world. I did lots of reading about tank and sump design, skimmers and water quality but believe it’s only a drop in the bucket or would I rather say “aquarium”. All help will be greatly appreciated to get going.

I have a 110 litre tank and a 64 litre sump to start with. Need advice on skimmers, test kits, accessories and where to buy.

    Hello And Welcome
    Cool, another Pretoria dude.

Check out the second hand forum. Or the local 2 suppliers / sponsers (Dorry Pets and Pet Stop)

    Where in Pretoria are you?

    hello Ratau:)
welcome to masa and to the sharp learning curve of marine aquaculture:) its great to hear that you are starting off:)

110l tank is small to start off with but if you get a decent skimmer, good LR and have good husbandry skills you will be just fine.

Have a look at the sponsors section (and note with hardware the sponsors out of area often ship things to you.....i know George our tunze sponsor has some great deals on internal flow at the moment) and you should be able to kit yourself out with good and appropriate equipment. I would stress that you want to talk to someone who knows about marines and not just Fresh water as you want to get applicable equipment at a good price and buy once, else this hobby becomes very expensive. when in doubt ask us here, we love to save each other money :)

welcome to the dark side, once you start on marines you will never go back to bath water fish again :)

Can you post some pics of what you have then we can go from there. Need to see the overflow and the lay out of your sump. This is by far the best hoby ever.
