    Good day..
    My name is Chris.
I have kept tropical fish all my life and an opportunity has risen to start a marine tank…. This is a custom build tank and will serve as a type of room divider, it should be completed shortly. The tank is 1400L x 350W x 900H, water level should be @ around 850mm with my own design overflow and return (two returns). The sump is 1000L x 350W x 450H and will consist of a bio-ball chamber then a protein skimmer then a live rock/sand bed and then the return chamber.
I guess from here I would need help from you guys as this is my first attempt towards marine… my first question would be about lightning regarding this tank, will the “T5” florescent lights be enough for soft corrals?
I will try and upload some photos at a later stage. Thank you.

    Hello and welcome Chris.

900mm is too deep, especially with T5's, and your arms will be too short to do anything on the bottom. Have to get the snorkel and goggles out.

350wide is also not a very nice depth when it comes to aquascaping.

Welcome, those are very tricky dimensions to work with. Scrap the bioballs and rather replace with a macro algae or make the deep sand bed chamber bigger.

hey man.. ditch the bio balls because they just cause problems in the long run.. T5s work to about 60cm deep. So if you cant modify your tank, i would suggest making a nice deep sand bed in the DT and stacking the live rock high so you can put the soft corals up high.. You will need like 4 54w T5's but now you have to consider if you will have enough room to fit the 4 t5s because of the 35cm.. Best would be to mod your tank, make it shorter, say 65cm and wider around 50cm min... If you leave your tank the way it is you are most probably goin to get annoyed lol..

    Hi
Thanks for the welcome everyone and for all your advice. Unfortunaly I can't change the tank as its almost complete. We have to see what we can do as soon as it is installed.

    From then to now

The tank arrived yesterday at about six o'clock (pm) and is finally standing in it's place. And only now will the work start as I still need to complete the plumbing to the sump etc.

Looking great there bud ... just a word of caution ... What is under the tank ... looks like wood .... If it is, replace with polystyrene ... you be happier ... Oh and where's my manners ..Welcome to MASA
