    Hi All

I have been fishing around on the forum gathering info and learning for a while now.

I have been in the FW side of things for a couple of years and recently(2 months ago) acquired a 650l glass aquarium intended for FW but decided to go SW.

Cleaned it up, built a stand and got it cycling for about 2 weeks now.

Will start a thread in Members Systems with all the ins and outs of the setup stages.

Thanks to all the members for their input advice and knowledge. Without forums I doubt I would be where I am today...and each experience is a learning curve and new adventures for me.

    Welcome!

If you are going sumpless look at the reefaquatics auction page for a hang on the back reef octopus skimmer. Or do you have on already?

Got a sump but saw the thread. Thanks man.

My sump is a 1,2m tank that I converted. Got a reef octo extreme 160 and a Heillea 6550 return with 2 x 300W heaters. Then for flow I have a Voyager v2 and a SuSun jvp102 both magnet mount. That will have to do for now.

The return pump is also adding a lot of flow to the dt tank. Hope the flow is enough. Gona run a dsb, but I want to do a removable one in 2 150mm plastic deep containers.

DSB is good, ask RiaanP. Cheaper but take a long time to start functioning properly.

Have you read about biocubes, np pellets and NoPox?

    Why a DSB?

Well I just saw a lot of talk on dsb and one of the lfs guys said it is the way to go.

Yes I read about the cubes and there is also a big hype about them. Haven't spoken to anybody locally that have used them though. People seem skeptical about them. I am however keen for anything that will work and make my life easier. I still want to do a bit more research into them though. I believe the nitro guard titanium is the latest and greatest.

Is there anybody in EL that stock it?

He(lfs) said it takes about two to three weeks for the DSB to start functioning. If I seed it. I have done a bit of research about DSBs as well and understand how they work.

Not to sure exactly how the cubes work. Research research :). Google is my friend.

Have a read through the biocubes threads. Easy, self regulating and good value for money. I've only been doing this for 7 months and I went for the cubes as my first method. Haven't looked back since.

Titanium is only needed if you bottom out on Phosphates before nitrates but that is uncommon. Normal biocubes will be fine and you can add titanium later in the unlikely event that you need it.

There are multiple threads about cubes on masa. Just use the masa search engine top right. At least 3 massive threads.

If you read nothing else read irieivan's review.
