    Hi all.

I just started out basically and i am looking at getting together a nice reef setup at home :)

Was in England last week and saw my friend had one and it really is surprisingly beautiful so i decided I need one too. lol. I had the whole fresh water tank thing for years and did really good but had to move so had to sell it. And besides marine/reef tanks are just on a different level. So i thought i would test it for myself.

I am looking at getting a 5ft tank at least as I do have plenty of space and loads of spare time for this. budget is ok so if anyone has any tips etc on where and how to shop for all the items i need i would really appreciate it. I don't want a pre-finished tank as I want to experience it from scratch. I found a few deals on tanks but any others would be awesome.

Please give me a shout as I really want to get into this hobby :)

    Cheers:1:

    Hello And Welcome

Look in the For Sale forums. Full systems or even partial systems where you can do the rest are listed.

You can buy from just the tank stand and sump to a full system from a LFS or from the for sale forum. Problem if you want to do all yourself, is that you do not know what is "all", being new in this game. It is not just the tank, as everything works together to ensure your success.

Seeing you are in Centurion, go around to Dorry Pets. In Pretoria is Pet Stop and in Midrand Idol Marine. I strongly advise to visit them BEFORE you take out your wallet to commit on anything. Learn, see, and get understanding of what you want your tank to look like.

And yes, 500L is a nice size system.

I will give them a visit today :) thanks

I have been studying this thread : Starting a Marine tank - What to buy first - Marine Aquariums of South Africa

It is very helpful so far and i will follow it by the letter to ensure i don't kill anything. Im a pet person so I can't stand it.

Also have 2 snakes, a gecko for the gf lol. 2 dogs and 3 cats... so this will be my crowning achievement :D

    I read that as
Also have 2 snakes, a gecko, a gf lol. 2 dogs and 3 cats
She will not be happy to be listed in the Pet category, and then in least importance than a gecko...

Also, see if you can get around to 2 or 3 reefers in your area. To see their setups and steal ideas with your eyes.
