pierre is this a new noise since i was last there? the one i heard was the pump drawing air. once the stand is cladded it will be far less noticable. then you can take the airfilter off and pull some real air into that skimmer :)

it will be better when its cladded, i dont think you will get a quieter pump without compromising the air intake.

sit it out in a few weeks you will hardly notice the noise.

    no pain no gain :)

Just give it time though. My tank has lots of noises but I'm so used to the noise that I hear immediately when something is off or broken. Once you clad the sump in you will hear nothing though. Don't change pumps, it wont work as well as the standard.

What pump is on the ORCA? I had a sicce on my OCTX200 and it was noisy as hell. So much that I traded it in for a bubble blaster. It was also the noise of the pump sucking and bashing up the air. Now the bubble blaster is quiet in that department and only gives off a slight humm.

I am most probably the person who is the most full of crap when it comes to equipment and noise. My house is dead quiet so you hear everything. A cabinet does make things a lot quieter but still not as if the tank is off.

Hi Les, I hear you but I have been to a local who has the same skimmer, no cladding and his is dead silent (Tunze that ones for free) Its been two weeks now.

Hi George I see where this is going, will check the tread, thanks. Are you having a special anytime like this week for us members. I been waiting long time but nothing to date.

Thank you, just a note my cladding is going to be fibreglass and not wood like many other tanks. Also the back will not be cladded, note surw that this will help much?

Hi Adam, prices are great, what would shipping charges be for the return pump only for now to East London? Also please quote on shipping for skimmer pump at a later stage. Is that return pump dead silent?

Thanks marius, not sure what pump it is but noisy, cladding will not be around the back so that is my concern when it comes to cladding resolving the issue. It is in the sitting room, so don't want people wondring what the heck is making that noise.

    Thanks again all.

i tell you what i have a octx200 laying here lets fire it up and see if there is a difference in the noise level. contact me and we can do the trial. perhaps that will offer you some perspective as to if the skimmer is unreasonably noisy or not.

2 of the same skimmers in 2 different locations are difficult to compare.

i also dont think the cladding micheal is preparing for you is going to subdue too much of the noise. the fiberglass sheets are fairly thin in the decorative mouldings from what i remember.

    your call

wood wouldent offer you too much more unless you went all the way to the wall. could always go wood for soundproofing and micheals decorative finish on the outside but then it starts getting expensive.

Happy days, replaced the impeller this evening and dead silent, had to turn my return pump off to make sure that it was not a dream. Thanks again to Bryan of Jungle Aquatics, now I can sleep and leave the skimmer on when people visit. Darn impeller. Also thanks to Henk.
