    Hi Guys,

Just got my tank up and running yesterday and last night the noise from the return pump almost drove me mental, is it normal for th ereturn pump to be this noisy and to be able to be heard all over a double story house??

Nope. What type of noise? Rattling or humming.

Its kind like a humming with the occasional rattle.

    What kind of pump?
Have you checked the impellor to see if any blades are missing?

My pump is a 3500lph Aqua Medic.
    Its totaly silent.
You cant even hear it if you lean over the sump where its placed.

Humming you cant do much about. If you lift the pump off the bottom and it quietens then its vibrations. Try placing the pump on some sponge. For rattling, check for missing teeth on the impeller as AOR suggested and for a bent shaft. Make sure the rubber stoppers are both in place as well.

Just did a little more investigation and it looks like it is not the pump it is the skimmer causing the problems. It is a TS2

    Reef Tek TS2

Well finally i am convinced it is definately my Skimmer that is Noisy, I am currently using the standard Reef Octo pump that comes with the TS2 and it has the Pin Wheel impeller, has anyone else experienced any problems with this pump being very noisy? any possible suggestions/causes?

have you moddewd the impeller? as nemos janitor explained in a vid, modding can cause the shaft to bend and stuff.....

    Hi Deadmeat,

No I have not touched it, the whole setup is not even two weeks old and the Skimmer and pump were straight out of the box they came in.
