Hi All

I'm almost sure this has been asked before on one of the sites but can't find it so sorry for the repeat...

I have a Reef Octo DNW..? ? ? Not sure the 1500l rated one, the skimmer seems to work well but the pump makes a bit of a noise and I'm sure it's getting louder and louder,

Can you please help sort this out.... :)

must be the impeller getting worn out

Is the noise comming from the impellor or the air getting sucked in?

I'll be honest this pump has givin shit from the start... was dripping quite a bit where the o ring seals the impellor housing and a bit of plumbing tap under the O ring sorted it out now the irratating noise... Alan I think it's the same pumps you have on your octo - do yours run silent? Good skimmer though...

I think so, the 3000L pumps, mine are very quite. I did read in a thread that if you put some plumbers tape around the plastic part of the shaft where the needle wheel fits onto it will quiten down. There have been a few complaints about the noise. Did you do the conversion of the washer to the o ring at the venturi inlet?

Um no - got it second hand from Mashrie - can you explain what to do so I can check? Where must I put the tape on the impellor and shaft (the piece that comes out)

Damb why do i always have to mission with everything.... if the pump is gonna make a noise all the time then what pump can I change it for - OR3500?

i had a pump doing that and it was a small airlock in the pump

Sims check this, i assume its the recirc pump..

Scott just phoned back.....wrap the plumbers tape around the plastic part of the impeller. So you pull the impeller out oft he magnet. Ryan did the first "mod" and recons you use 5 or 6 layers of tape. So just heads up its not around the magnet but around the plastic bit of the impeller just above the magnet

Ok I'll give that a bash when I get home.... hope it works because it's quite bad, did you fix yours?

yupp Sims i fixed mine like that. Like the post said just carefully pull the impeller out of the magnet and wrap the plumbers tape.

Um I was hoping this would not be asked.... I'm a real dumb ass.... when I was in the tank I stuck my hand in to grab some hairy green syuff and put my foot on the wood my skimmer is on to raise it so the outlet fits into the sump and noise was gone - pump was vibrating the wood.... I know I'm an idiot but hay I fixed to noise
