    Hi guys,

    I have Halia 6530 powerhead as my return pump in the sump. 2 days ago it started making a little noise, but its getting louder all the time. Its new, and only been in there for 3 weeks.

    Is it normal, or is there a problem?

    Take it out, open it up and check if anything is stuck in there. Give it a good clean with some vinegar + water. Check the impellor etc.

    Let us know.

    be cautious wne taking the impellor out, the shaft is made of ceramic and they break easily, check for obstructions and dirt clean and make sure the little bushes are there. this allows for better (more silent) operation.

    good luck

    With noisey pumps me generaly just switch them off than on again, they dead silent again. Also make sure the pump not against the glass as that will cause lots of vibration and noise.

    @KATHIE the vinegar help dissolve calcium build up and lets one wipe off Coraline alglea with a soft clothe, with out scratching the plastic

    @leslie hempel

    Hi Les,

    Not yet. I have removed the pump, opened it, cleaned it, but it's still making a heck of a racket although its running fine. This weekend I'm taking it back to Exotics to see what they say, as that's where I bought it 3 weeks ago.
