Hi, we just finished installing our light fitting above our tank.
There is just one thing that is really bothering me, the MH are making a huge noise. It almost sounds as if a helicopter is starting it's engines in our lounge. :(
At this stage my hubby is watching the rugby with the surround sound on full blast.... oh and btw at last the boks are getting tries... :slayer:

Any way, back to the lights it's a really annoying sound.
Is this normal, is there something I can do to reduce the noise?
Do any of you have a similiar problem?

It sounds like your light fitting has cooling fans which are noisy. Check first to see whether the lights have fans and if so a little Q20 sprayed into the fans centre will help. Otherwise take it back to where you bought it.

The 150W MH magnetic ballasts do start up with a loud annoying sound for a few seconds and there after it is fine. All normal :)

I ran the lights through the night and they are still making a noise? I also noted that they do have fans and one of the fans is contributing the noise. But the "ballasts" is the loudest

Sounds like a faulty ballast to me. Take it back to your LFS and tell them to replace it for you.
