    Hi All

I am looking for ideas to reduce the noise and the bubbles I get into my DT.
So in my wisdom when I put everything together I thought that having a small sump above my tank would be a good idea. So I pump water from my main sump up to ceiling height, into the smaller sump. From the smaller sump the water is piped down to the DT. The fall is about 1 meter, but I get a lot of small bubbles in the DT. It also makes some noise. I have tried to reduce this by creating a U bend like a toilet, but it does not seem to help.
    Any Ideas?

Why not just pump water directly to the DT ?

Or add a ball valve to the pipe feeding water into the DT, just seems a lot of complications IMHO

but why are there bubbles in the first place? Is it from your skimmer?

Nope the bubbles are not from the skimmer. The water falls about 1 meter from my sump to my Display tank.

I will try a gate valve, i have a ball valve on at the moment, an if I close it part of the way. It still does not help with the bubbles.

How deep is this U bend? Does it go down, behind the tank, to well below the tank water level? I would make the downpipe form the ceiling sump 2m, then the U bend, then 1m back up to display.

I will not trust a gatevalve, especially in your set up. Water coming down from ceiling height will surely upset your non-reefer. :)
