NOAA: US coral reefs under threat

    By the looks of it,the only reefs that we are eventually going to have left, is our little glass boxes. Very sad...

    I was in the Seychelles in December, the destruction is even worst there, 95% of the reef is gone and now covered in algae.

    It was bleached in 1997 (or there about) and now there is only a few new growth areas and a few deep reefs who has survived.

    A lesser discussed fact is that the back to back storms experienced world wide are leaving a massive wake of coral destruction in the tropics. Recovery is normally very quick however continued land degradation and deforestation (run-off and silt) means that our coral are now competing with lower order life forms (algae) for real estate.
