    Morning,

My tank is running just over a month, Ph , Alk , NH3/NH4 , and No3 are all good except for my the NO2 it stays on 0.2.

I just added 10kg of live rock to the tank, will this sort my problem or what else must i do? A water change? But how many?

    Thank you

A bit of patience would be in order, No2 indicates your tank is cycling. Check the reading with another test kit to make sure and then just wait until it reaches 0, adding live rock that has not cured yet may cause a further spike because of the die off.

    Thanx Alan,

The live rock are cured/matured. So i think i'll just have to wait a little bit longer.

    Thank you

    Thank you Titanse,

So when did you start adding live stock? And when will it be safe for me to start?

    Thank you

Bout a nother 2 months or so, but when you day add... take it easy too.

If you want to add fish, maybe 1 a week or even 2 weeks. Shrimps and crabs also maybe 2 at a time but you should leave a week or 2 gap for the tank to adjust. It is frustrating but saves you killing you live stock....

    Learnt the hard way!!!!

This hobby is really testing my patience!!! But i knew that from the start, cant wait to start with the live stock!

What good skimmer can i use? I dont have a sump(canister filter , red sea air skimmer60) and i dont really have space for a hang-over skimmer.

    Cheers

divan, depends on what you can afford... but loook at an external skimmer. that way when you get a sump you can still use it. looking at a good 1-2 grand tho...

good ones are Reef octopus... look at dory pets for some ideas... they got a good range...

For the water changes... try get once a week about 25l. looks like you have 4ft tank.

This will get rid of the NO2 as well... but try get that skimmer running asap...

Keep up the good work

try add some chaeto to the tank until you ready to add fish then stick it in your sump.

This pulls nutrients from the water and also helps with getting your population of pods up.

Thats the nitrogen cycle in action! Ammonia (NH4) breaks down to Nitrite (NO2) through Ammonification which breaks down to Nitrate (NO3) with the help of aerobic bacteria, this then breaks down, in the LR and DSB to Nitrogen (N) through the use of the anaerobic bacteria

I would not recommend doing a water change during your cycle, as you want the cycle to complete, and water changes extend the cycle as you get rid of the food the bacteria need to complete the cycle

Thanx to all for the help!!!

I've got a NO3 spike this past 2 days so i guess the cycle is in full force.

In my cannister filter i have ceramic rings, should i keep them or replace? If i have to take them out what should i replace them with?

External skimmer - Will that be one that is separate from the tank, and must it stand higher than the tank?

    Well done BOKKE!!!!!!

yo answer some Q's, the brown stuff is algae and part of the cycle, after 6 weeks or so the cycle should be complete and will start disappearing.

yes those are mushrooms, keep an eye on them, when they start opening fully it will mean your water is almost ready.
once all your params are in order, NH4, NO3, NO2 are 0, give it a few more days and add only one fish to let the filters adapt to the new bioload.

How much flow must you have in your dt? Currently i have a sunsun pump think its rated 6000l/h. It's a 4ft tank.

    Cheers
