Urgent help needed No power

    What is the lowest my tank temp can drop before i really need to worry? Right now 20 and dropping. Still have circulation using ups

    Up to 18 deg, fish will be cold, by 16, you might have some losses, only the hardy will survive...
    Good luck!

    Wrap the tank in blankets, if you have a gas heater, light it up nearby.

    not sure the size of your tank, but if at all possible try wrapping it in a blanket, it will insulate the heat and will the temp will not drop so quick.

    Not 100% sure to the answer to your question though.

    20 degrees is really low!... Without power there is not much you could do now. Hope it comes back soon. GOOD LUCK!!!!

    Stop the flow from the DT to the sump. You lose lots of heat that way. But do not stop circulation in the sump if you can.The gas heater and blanket will also help.

    Thanks all power back dropped to 20.2 and now raising slowly. All fishies look fine.

    Yeah mine too helga just didnt think temp would drop so fast. But was pumping my water through sump still with ups. Next time im just going to leave a powerhead running in tank for circulation and see how fast it drops then.

    Has to happen on the coldest day of the year so far.. The one when it snows in jhb.. :confused::D

    Great stuff:thumbup: I'm also in the westrand,power went off ten min ago,but back on already:) but yeah need to get a back up system very soon!
