Dude the power should be back on by now if not then soon. The power was only off for about 1hour here.

Something must have happened at caltex refinery because as the power went out the sirens went off then we saw a shit load of thick white smoke which smelt like diesel or something of that sort then shortly followed by black smoke. I hope it wasn't too serious.

keyaam, what do you use to monitor power and send SMS's in the event of a power failure?

I went last week and spent R3000.00 on an inverter and battery which when fully charged should last me 4 - 6 hours. I am running only my cannister filter off it just to keep some circulation going should the power trip here where I am :whistling:

I would definately advise the same to everyone with a marine tank. Rather spend the money to save what you have already invested so much in

A cheap version would be a battery powered airpump thats connected via a relais (spelling?). As soon as the power trips, the bubbles coming up in the display tank and provide some flow and more important, oxygen.

Got home at 15:00 to find that while the power was jumping on and off it fried my main circuit breaker... Rushed to buy a battery airpump and the electrician got there after 18:00 and by 18:30 my power was finally back up and running... No losses... :)

can anyone recommend an inverter, capable of running 1) 300w heater, 2) powerheads and 3) my uplift pump of 1200l p/h

    cheapest, smallest and neatest option.

once I buy it, it will probably never be needed :-(

    your recommendations will be appreciated,

PS! I'm not sue if this is a hijack, but think we could all use the info ?
