Ideally Nitrite (NO2) should be at zero before adding any life stock, NO2 is very toxic to fish and inverts. Then you need to add life stock slowly, just don't go and add five fish at once, you will be opening yourself up to mini cycles and stressed out fish who have a lowered immune system which then become sick, test the water in two days again.
BTW, How long has your tank been cycling?

Its not the nitrites that are a problem, as they are not that toxic to marine fish.
The problem is they normally show a tank which is still busy cycling.
Which means it will not be able to convert the ammonia to nitrite quickly enough, when livestock is added.

How long has your tank been running. It sounds like it is still bysy cycling. If so the next step would be for nitrite to 0 and No3 to go up.
