    Hi Guys

Ive been struggling with getting my nitrates down to zero.
    Its currently on 25.
    Tanks been running 9 months

    My system is +- 900L

    Filtration:

    NW 200 reef octopus skimmer
    DSB with chaeto
    +-60kgs live rock

got about 14 fish in my tank

Ive done weekly water changes now for the past 6 weeks.
Feeding once a day. But its stays at 25. I usually test after 2 days of changing water

    Advice ive gotten so far:

    1. Do water changes
    2. Siphon sand bed in display with each water change which ive done.
    3. Minimize feeding which ive done.
    4. blast detris off rocks which has been done.

Any other methods and advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Morne

Whats the size of your dsb? What's your flow like in the DT and over the DSB?

    Hi Morne.
Please elaborate a bit on the size of your DSB. Dimensions, depth, composition and age. In tank or in sump? What sandbed do you have in tank? Are you sure your test kit is relatively accurate?
Is the evidence of algae being manifested in an algal outbreak?

What size fish in your tank?
What size system is your skimmer rated for?
Any other filtration media such as sponges, filter floss, etc?
Please post a pic of your tank and sump, it will help.
What percentage water changes have you done?
Are you using RO water? Have you tested the ro for NO3?
There are various reasons for continuously hi NO3, have eluded to some above. I can recommend some really good products, which will reduce your no3, but I think it more important at this stage to ascertain the root cause, eliminate it as much as possible, then remove current no3 and then impliment preventative measures.

When u say you siphon dsb, do you disturb the sand? You must only remove the sediment

Thanks for the compliments. Im increasing flow the weekend and ive blasted my rocks again.
Maybe i should just get a supplement to reduce the nitrates solong. Till i get to the root of the problem. I currently have a powder blue with ich.
so doing the bucket method makes for small water changes every other day. I'll test again by next sunday.
