Hey guys... Im NightWolf from Worcester and im going to be starting my first marine tank ever...

I got myself a Boyu TL550 and 13kg of live rock as well as some Aragonite and R\O water.
Did the wet test this weekend and all was well, so put my R\O water in yesterday, added salt and waited for it to settle. Then put in my LR and started my aquascaping... probably going to go through more changes still...

After that i added my washed substrate and waited for that to settle, took all night and this morning i have i clearer tank again, also put in a small raw shrimp. Now the big wait is going to start. Been on the site, browsing for over two weeks... thanks for all the tips!:whistling: and i'll have ALOT more questions as time passes.

I'll be putting up pic's soon...

Welcome to MASA. Seems like you have done your homework. So well done. You are off to a great start. You can use the cycle period to plan your livestock you can add to your tank, get your aquascaping exactly the way you want it, get all your food etc together, sort out your filtration . By the end of the cycle, you will have everything ready for action, plenty of pods and life and a healthy tank.

Thanks guys... took a pic of the startup, but my internet is a bit slow today so im having trouble uploading to photobucket... will try tonight. Quick question also, i have everything on except my uv light, gonna leave that off until i see some life? Also have my skimmer on, is that ok? i added some prime and stability as instructed by sam's, unsure if i should do the prime now or wait till i get the ammonia spike? Thanks again guys

cycle with your light off. When I still had my TL550 , i disconnected my UV. does not really work. my 2c. You can leave your skimmer off. Also add Stability and Prime. Will speed up the cycle. By adding bacteria supplements you might not see a spike in ammonia at all. All depends on the die off on the liverock. If good quality liverock, you wont see much.

Rule #1 ......as instructed by sam's.... Dnt always listen to lfs advice, many is aimed @ selln u most things you don't need, there are a feww reputable ones who won't lead u astray ....js be carefull

Stability is good, follow the intructions on the bottle and then u wait 4-6 weeks, after 4th week you can start testing for nitrates, nitrites and ammonia .... U need to get them down to zero then your cycle is complete .... U don't really need the prime, however it can help but imo a waste of money

UV is useless, leave it off ... Dnt run lights as it will fuel algae growth whilst cycling and nutrient levels high.... Skimmer is ok to run aswell, since u added liverock u will definately see some skimmate .... Nw for the pics :p

Scape looks good dude, on left bottom rock looks close to glass, the idea is to keep a spce just big enuf for your cleaning mag to pass without hittn the scape, trust me it makes glass cleanin a breeze

what you can do as well is to move the powerhead to the bottem left corner and face it towards the front panel. This way you can get some nice random flow and itll also blow it upwards towards the overflow. Ill then set my spraybar so its agitating the surface. Not saying to do it, it worked for me so maybe give it a try during cycle. The trick with flow is to minimise the dead spots, get most detritus to go through the overflow so its caught in the filter floss or sponge, whichever you use.

What filtration do you have in the back compartments ?
