What is to be thought a "normal" nighttime PH drop?

My tanks PH has since startup always been between 8.10 to 8.20. Never higher. Now I know during the night the PH drops. My PH drops about 0.10 to 0.15 during the night. Is that an excepted PH drop. It picks up to the above reading during the day again.

The rest of my parameters are always around:

    KH 9 to 10
    Calc 420 - 450
    Magn 1320 - 1350

So your pH is changing from 8.10 to 8.20?
Are you running a refurigum with reverse lights?

most people would experience a drop from 8.10 to 8.00/7.90 or even lower, once the lights go out. This is due to an increase in co2 as photosynthesis stops.

I dont run my refugium on reverse lights at night. Firstly its a display refugium and secondaly I have now got two little clownfish in it. I wouldnt want to keep their lights on all night

So any PH drop of say between 0.10 to 0.30 could be considered as normal?

Thanks Dallasg. I was really getting concerned for this drop? As i said, I know it drops at night, and I understands the reasons why, but its just that I can never get my PH to run at the "perfect" 8.30. I have dosed Seachems Reef Buffer just to raise it a bit higher before lights out, but I have to be careful to not raise my KH to high.

Can I relax with my tank running at these parameters? I have read that PH swings are dangerous to tank inhabitants. But what is dangerous swings?

@Helga have you tried the aquavitro supplements also a seachem product. You can try and use aquavitro Balance (Raises PH without affecting calcium and alkalinity)

Thanks Dallasg, the best explanation on PH problems I've ever read. It answered all my questions. I've come to the conclusion that tanks with calcium reactors almost always run on the lower end of the PH spectrum...
My tank runs exactly as should be expected.
You should request this info to be added as a Sticky note! Very good, thanks!

I actually like to use the aquavitro supplements, but have not seen the "Balance". Will definitely get it. I needed something to raise my PH without raising KH as well.
    Thanks!
