    Hi everybody

For years I wanted my own marine aquarium so finally I have the guts to start my journey. Tank in beginning of cycle. Not sure how cycle works if water from aquarium is used.

Welcome to MASA, the tank will take a few weeks for the bacterica to grow on your filtration media, and rocks, to facilitate the nitrogen cycle efficently. once this is done the tank is cycled. The used water has no real bearing on this.

By water from aquarium, you referring to two oceans?
As mentioned, it wont speed up the process significantly.

Where did you get the sand from? Was it sold to you as live sand (caribsea aragalive, has bit of water in packet) or was it dry?

Please post pictures of your filtration setup/sump.

Welcome to our forum, please dont hesitate to ask questions.

    Hello and Welcome

Cycle is the process to remove dead and decaying matter from your live rock.

:welcome7: to MASA. There is a few additives like Prodibio and others that you can add to speed up the cycling process or you could go the old school way and let it run for a few weeks... Good luck and enjoy:thumbup:

welcome, I work at the two oceans and we have a constant overflown of fresh seawater into most exhibits, so no real cycling happens i dont think, like having a waterchange going on 24/7

Thanks everyone for your input. Will experiment a bit and see what works. I probably just need to be patient and let nature takes its course.
