Thanks for the membership, I have just started my first marine tank. I'm sure I will post many threads as time goes on.
I have a tank 2.2 m x 900 x 600 with a 1.8 m sump tank, and would like to setup a nice reef tank with some softies nit sure how I will fill the tank with rocks but time will tell.

    Thanks Archie

    Setup problems

Hi all thanks for the warm welcome, I will post some pic,s later, but no I need some help with water temperature , I have 1500 liters in the tank and sump and are running the tank now for the 10 days , no lights jet just a skimmer and filtration and live rock in the sump and return to the tank, the temperature goes as high as high 27.5, is this a problem and how will I get the temp down, as I said this is before any light is installed.

    Hey @archiescorgie,

There is difference of opinion on whats the perfect temp to keep your water at, mine is at a constant 26'C as I have a chiller that works wonders. However one could also use fans over the sump but this might cause lots of evaporation and you'll need to top up more frequently.

    Good luck,

Some guys have their tanks running up to 28`C. The norm is 26 but i think the maximum should be 28. You just started so be patient. Let your tank cycle first, while you wait plan and buy what you need. I have a similar size tank and just recently started up. I have been cycling for 2 months now and now my tank is starting to balance out. I am only planning on adding livestock in Feb. Patience, patience and some more patience.

If it gets to that temp when heater is off and without lights and you probably dont have a lot of pumps running, Temp could become an issue. Try cooling with some fans, if it drops by 2 to 3 deg, you should be ok.
