    Hi MASA members!!

I started my tank about five months ago and joined MASA after 5weeks of cycling.
I am taking it very slow, so progress on stocking and upgrading takes a bit of time.

I scored my tank from a client I was doing some contract work for. At that time I had a few fresh water tanks going, with no intention of starting a marine tank. My late grandfather used to have marine tanks as well as my uncle and cousin who are still "dik" into it. I went to go check out my cousins low tek 60l and it dawned upon me......thats what I want.

Got home, shut down all fresh water tanks, took all fish to LFS and sold tanks. now Iv got this one marine project that im really enjoying. I thought that the long process of getting a marine tank going would be to much and really test my patients. And it has, and im loving it!!

    Anyway! Some info.

    Curved glass 120L
In hood filtration (filter floss, ceramic rings and bag of carbon) in that order.
Boyu WG308 skimmer (A bit small and will need an upgrade) in water column.
Big power head in tank with two smaller ones tucked in behind live rock.
    2X 80W jebo super lights
35x leds on strip in clear pipe.

    All parameters are fine.

    SG 1023- 1024
Temp a bit high. 28c in upper section, lower in tank 27c. still working on installing some 12v pc fans.

I started the tank with NSW, now im using RED SEA coral pro salt.

Have done one 50% water change in five months... just because.

Algae growth is not too much of an issue at this point either.

I have loads of small copepods all over tank. 3 species that I can see.

8kg live rock Fiji. And a big coral skeleton.

No major live stock at the moment.

Some mushrooms which are doing very well.
    Button polyps
    Pink star polyps

    Hermit crabs

And a variety of creatures that came with the live rock.

My plans for the future of this tank!!

I want to DIY a small HOB sump for skimmer and refugium or algae scrubber.
Upgrade power heads to something better.

I want a hardy tank! so im thinking mostly soft corals and a few small fish, five at most.

Well that is that for now.

I know the rules! I will start another thread with pics of my tank when I get back from Gaansbaai this weekend.

    Irie!!!:021:

O yes!! One of the reasons I joined Masa is to score some stuff! I need corals, softies for now. Anybody fragging and willing to share? I will pay :whistling:. it will have to be folks in CT. Going through Hermanus this weekend could try and pop in at a friendly reefers house at some point ;). I no! very forward for a newbie!

    Again thanks peeps! Great forum!!

    Thanx for all the weclcomes!!

    Ok! Pics as promised!

Dont laugh!! Tank has been running about five months now. As I said, I am taking it slow with stocking and upgrading.

How tank looks today! First three.

Some critters! Local hermits and shrimp from Klienbaai. Next three.

Here is a pic of one of many scapes I did. At first I made my own rock. But didnt look so great. I think! Last pic.

That is that for now. Please excuse the yellow hue of the water in pics. It is actually crystal clear.

    Thanks for edit info!! MistaOrange!

Most of the LR in the current tank is figi from the LFS. The rest is base rock that came out of another system. The rock u see in the last pic is DIY mixed with local, and rock from another system.

    No problem

Did you have PO4 issue when you used the local rock? I used it when I first started & had continuous problems with the PO4 staying high & didn't understand why until a friend told me to remove the local rock & do a large water change. The PO4 kept away after removing the rock, so just be careful when using the local rock.

Thanks for the heads up! I did a PO4 test and it was 0.05. I havnt tested in two weeks thou? But I have not had any major algae problems from the start. Although I was thinking of promoting algae growth of certain kinds to keep PO4 down. Might hook up a algae scrubber at some point. Dont know yet. There is allot of space for improvement.
