For the cutting I am soliciting help from some friends of mine, but welding will be done by me. Want to make sure cuts are true and all the lengths are correct so I have the minimum amount of hassle keeping it all square and true.

Have first baffle in doing a 3 chamber sump......skimmer, etc chamber 340x500x350mm, refugium will be 320x500x350 with a 70mm gap for media between them. Then a over under over baffle arrangement also 70mm apart leaving me a return area of 288x500x350. Hope that makes sense.
    Any comments suggestions welcome..:m01:

Excuse the rough drawing but this is the basic layout I was trying to explain above. 1502632281280-1515878469.jpg

Hi Mark this looks fine for a simple 3 chamber sump. Are you putting any mechanical filtration before the skimmer, ie filter socks or floss?

    Hi Beast,
Thanks for help, will put in filter sock before the skimmer and then media balls in first baffle before refugium. Thinking live rock in the Refugium. What do you think?
Flow look alright? Is a 20mm gap between the under baffles enough or to much.
    Regards
    Mark

Just one thing watch the spacing of the baffles and the height i think 70mm might be too much, what is the flow rate of your return pump?

I was looking at about 3500L/h.
Is that enough was going on a friends tank that is a big cube. He runs this in it.1502635139146225416041.jpg

Maybe reduce the spacing of the bubble trap baffles before the return pump if you not putting media in there

Why are you concerned regarding the baffle gap? Remember I am old but a newbie, sometimes things need explaining. :m01:

The reason behind my thinking is if you have too much spacing you may have a problem with micro bubbles from the skimmer returning to the display tank, as your sump is quite wide your baffles have enough area for the flow of your system so i wouldnt worry too much about there not being enough flow with smaller baffles. Return pump sounds alittle small as your system is about 1100 litres including the sump and return should be between 5 and 10x your system volume per hour.

I understand will look at a bigger return pump and reducing baffle distances. Would like some media in at least the first one after the Refugium should I decide to put some of the tank friendly plant media in with the LR. Hope that makes sense can't recall the name of the stuff, age.
Thanks very much for the input I really do appreciate it.:m106:

DSC_0178.JPG Sump complete......will let it dry for a week then fill it with water.

Next job will be the stand......just got to finish some air rifle silencers first as these pay for the new hobby...:m16:

Sump filled and now being left to soak, so to speak, for a few days. Then I will do a proper clean up job on the glass and pack it away.
