    Hello all,

I'm up in the Jhb area. Currently only have a baby Nano fresh water tropical tank that my son and I have been looking after since the beginning of the year.

I grew up on the coast and have been lucky enough to go to a few different island chains over the years and snorkel and see some of these stunning fish up close.

I have always wanted to get into Salt Water and this will definitely be the year.

Jungle Aquatics seems to be my closest lfs and have already received some good advice.

I have fallen in love with the Red Sea range of tanks although my budget hasn't

I'll probably aim for a Red Sea Max 250 2nd hand. Just feel the 130d just a bit small but time will tell...

Any way. Lots more reading to be done.

    looks like an awesome forum.

    Cheers John

There is a Gauteng reef meet coming up. Why don't you join them.

@dryreef welcome to the forum you will learn lots from the posters here.

If you are considering a 130 you could also look at a Boyu TL550, its very similar to a 130 size wise and you get some bargains advertised. I very much doubt that you would find a 250 cheap. Good luck!

Welcome to the hobby, those are nice tanks that you are looking at. If you can, rather go for the bigger unit as you will definitely outgrow the 130. Bryan and the rest of the jungle aquatics crew will definitely be able to help you out as I am sure that they have a few second hand tanks on the floor (not sure of the price though).

    Good luck and have fun!

Yup ... Nothing like an Easter Promo to get things going.

Picking up a Red Sea Max 250 2nd hand from them.Looking in amazing nik visually and is supposedly only 6 months old.
They have secured it for me and will be going through tomorrow morning and doing the payment.
    Not sure on collection yet.

Then I guess some rock Dwayne recommended the non live rock , build it let it set for a while insert into tank next day and then fill up with RO water.
Then wait for about 2-3 months and start the whole lets add fish etc cycle.

    May the good times roll...

Cool, please post pics if you do and prices. According to what i wanted to do it was way to expensive.
I was going with 3 CC: 2 Pool cement:1 salt. The CC alone was R80/kg.

Sorry. I misunderstood. Not make rock.

It's just rock that is not live. Might be man made but really not sure.
