Hi guys thanks.I need some guidance and advice. I just started my marine tank about 6 weeks back. I have hade tropical fish bevore but I know that its not the same, so I dont want to pay school-fees. My spec is 1.2*450*700(385L)(85galls). Got a over flow in the back coner on some cotton wool then through bi/balls that goes to my sump filter under my tank, 4 chambers(1st one L/R, 2de one hafe XXL corel and ceramic pipe,3de L corel 3/4 full last one my protein skimmer and uv lite. Then I have a external canister filter(350L/78galls). Plus 2 power heads in my tank. lightning 2*blue, 1*sun,1*colal,1*fluresent and on my sump filter 1 blue is this ok?

How about posting some pics of your setup including the sump.Bio balls and Coarse coral are nitrate factorys.
Since you have a 4 chamber sump,do it this way.
Chamber1 : Overflow from tank and skimmer
Chamber2 : Live Rock and Macroalgea (Chaetomorpha is my choice)
    Chamber3 : DSB (Deep sand bed +- 15cm deep)
Chamber4 : Return pump to tank

Oh yes, and you dont need any light over the sump unless you have Macro Algea. And the light that will do the job will be white bulbs 6500k - 10000k

Agree with Mek, exactly what I would've done ;)

and take the bio-balls and rather give them to a child to play with :whistling: , will be more beneficial outside the tank!

Will take pics of set up and send thanks. Bio balls are only in my over flow in my tank in the back conner before the water goes to my sump filter. Is this rong? So currently after my overflow from my tank water goes to
chamber1(sice120*350*350) : live rock must I change this to my protein skimmer
chamber2(120*350*350) : xxl corel and ceramic pips must go live rock
chamber3(120*350*350) : L corel must take out and make it DSB
chamber4(500*350*350) : protein skimmer and rerurn pump to Return pump only
what sand must I use for DSB?

    Spot on!
Remove the Bio balls completely from the system.
For your DSB you can use Playsand from Reggies (wash,wash,wash....til it turns white) or you can use Aragonite or Sea sand. Playsand is great value for money +-R40.00 per 20kg bag :)

No problem, all questions you have fire away, the only stupid question is the one you don't ask, we may well have answered the question 100 times, but this is the first time you asked it;)
