Hi my name is plecomaster. I don't have a marine tank, but I do have 2 freshwater aquariums. My friend suggested I join this website as he is a fanatic about saltwater fishkeeping.I might not know much about saltwater tanks but I am willing to learn.I hope you veterans can teach me alot about saltwater fishkeeping. Thanks for reading my first thread.

Welcome to MASA Plecomaster! Taking the step into marine is like entering a whole new world. But you've got the right attitude. Learn and read and learn and read some more, theres a lot more to it than freshwater. You'll be addicted for sure ;)

Go to forums at the top left. Under the beginner section is a lot of good information. Start with how to cycle a tank and the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate relationships. Then go buy some patience at the hardware store because not even Chuck Norris has enough patience when it comes to their first marine tank.

Thereafter read the rest of the threads:
    Startup equipment
Water, salt mix or natural seawater
    Lighting options
    Mechanical, biological and chemical filtration
    Substrate options, pros and cons
Live rock vs dead rock vs base rock
    Startup test kits
First inmates: clean up crew, appropriate first fish (Do Not Get the pretty blue and yellow very hardy damsel fish. It comes from hell and is demon spawn)
Their is a thread about appropriate fish size for whichever tank size you have.

Never buy anything without looking at a online site for compatibility, tank size and feeding habits. Liveaquaria.com is a good place to start.

Welcome to MASA and show us some pictures as soon as you have any. Even of the place you intend to put the stand. Anything and everything goes.

    Good luck!

    hey man :welcometomasa2: to MASA
there is so much info here and people always willing to help. since you ate into fresh water you already know some basics about keeping an eco system alive in a small confined space. water changes, feeding the same rules apply
good thing is that you have not setup yet so you are not under pressure and will have plenty of time to prepare and learn before you setup your first tank
