Hi my name is Donny, I have never kept marine before. I have at present two tanks that are both freshwater, 1 is a 1.2 with 5 spotted silver dollars and a 60cm tank with 5 x 5cent pieces spotted dollars I got yesterday. During my shopping trip yesterday my wife saw a trigger and now wants marine.
I have a spare 1.2 that is empty that I can now use for this.
What equipment would I need and who can I see in Cape Town for some advice on the way forward.

Welcome, first thing is to read up, do you want corals or fish only?

Hi Dallag, do you know of any books or pdf's I should read in specific, at first will most likely be fish only, then maybe some escaping as I would like to keep some shrimp.

Read the links in my signature, the first thing needed will be a protein skimmer, books are ok, but rather ask here and look in the beginners section, great articles there

some of the important things you will need..
    1) tank ( you already have)
    2) skimmer
    3) sump
    4) return pump
    5) live rock
    6) salt
    7) RO water
    8) a wave maker

once you have all that you. an start your tank and give it few weeks to cycle .. while you wait you can research and plan for your livestock and what other equipment you will need to support this livestock

@DonnyW, Welcome to the reefkeeping world and MASA ! Pop in to our store anytime for a chat, best to discuss your needs and plans face to face. We are located in Capricorn Business Park, Muizenburg.

Please not we are closed on Mondays and Sundays.

I will also try an convince your wife not to get a trigger, they not considered reef safe - much later for that :)
