Hay guys. As stated in the title, i am an old hand when it comes to Planted tanks and freshwater fish. Wanted to start this marine hobby many moons ago but yeah full time student.

Starting up a Nano of round about 200L end of january. Running 4x 24w t5's, Reeftek ts2 skimmer. Any advice on other filter media and or anything else will be very much appreciated.

    Regards

    Welcome to MASA ReefStudent.
and welcome to the nano-clan :)
Do remember to post pics once the system is getting wet, we are a bunch of picaholics.
Your filter media depends on various things, e.g. will you add a sump, stocking preferences, feeding regime... and ofcourse each filter meadia has its pro's and cons, its avid followers, and critics :)

I would suggest you start reading, if you haven't already done so;) , and then ask specific questions

Will be running a sump, that is where the skimmer will be. Using a Sicce 2.0 for return pump. Please fill me in on what the usual filter media for a nano would be, running softies, inverts and some fish.

Will post lots of pics as soon as i start and ask lots and lots of questions to follow

DSB's - Cheap & low maintenace Flow needs to be set correct for optimum performance.
NP Reactors - Relative initial layout cost, but apparently runs smooth once fine tuned. (Think it also may need replacement of media every once in a while.)
Biocubes - High initial cost, needs replacement every now and again.

These are the 3 I can think of offhand ATM, I personally have a DSB running on my nano, and have no personal experience with the other media.

But do share a pic of the sump you have ( or a drawing of the sump you ave in mind) then the experts can give you better guidance. ;)
