    Hi Guys,

    I have set up my first tank this last week: :)

    • 300l
    • TS1 Skimmer
    • Odesea T5
    • +- 12kg Live Rock

    [IMG]

    In the sump is a Jeager heater, bag of playsand, bioballs, ceramic rings and a bag of carbon:

    I bought the tank with live rock and water second hand.

    I do have a couple of questions:
    • The water seems to take a long time to warm up. I popped in the heater on Saturday ... the water in the sump is now at 24 degrees and 22 degrees in the display tank (the thermostat is set at 26 degrees). Do I need an extra heater?
    • How do I judge the optimum water level in the skimmer?
    • The Nitrate level is very high 50 ppm (Seara test kit) or 100ppm (Salford test kit). Guess things are cycling?
      Ammonia = 0 ppm
      Nitrite = 0 ppm
      PH = 9
    • Where can I get macro algae (Cheato?) for the DSB?
    • Is LED 'strip' lights (a flexible LED tape bought at Builders Warehouse (I think its called Lumico)) suitable for sump lighting?

    Any advice or suggestions?

    Thank you
    Fanie

    Fanie you need at least 300 watts of heater for a 300 litre tank. What livestock if any do you have in your tank?

    Or get another one

    another thing i noticed is that your inlet seems to have alot of bubbles. You might want to modify that to limit salt creep

    Water level in skimmer it must be around one to one and a half centimeter from the bottom of the cup in the chamber then you must play with it as it runs in you need nice dark black skim mate.

    You could do weekly water changes or go for orca cubes @dallasg or wait for your DSB to start working.Doing weekly water changes with good quality salt and good quality RO water will help.How deep is your DSB??

    Sump light can be any light if you are going to grow macro algae you need a light from 4500 K to 6500 K it almost grows under any light.

    Looking good man. Also turn your skimmer pump to face the water coming into the sump si it can "catch" more crap that way instead of the pump facing the glass.
