Hallo, I have a new tank. It was a fresh water tank, now it is a saltwater tank. I have live sand and live rock, from the petshop with water that I got from them, will I have to cycle my tank, if so, will it take as long as normally?

A very warm welcome to MASA, Albert! Great to have you on-board. Albert - did you also get testing kits? Your cycle is done when your nitrate levels are very low, and your testing kits does not show any reading for ammonia, and nitrites.

This depends on your exact system setup, and no-one's cycle take the same length of time. As a "normal average" this can take between 6 weeks and 8 weeks....

    Perhaps sooner?

Just keep on monitoring your live rock - you should start seeing all kinds of growths, and life appearing.

Just ensure that you topup your tank using RO Filtered fresh water, when the water level drops due to evaporation.

Also - can you please elaborate on what filtration system you have to filter the water?

Please read up as much as you can and learn as much as you can, about keeping marines!

And remember - patience is KEY in this hobby!
