Welcome to MASA. What setup do you have planned? Like size of tank, fish only or reef tank? As always we love pics so post pics as soon as you get your tank, even if it is empty...

A VERY WARM WELCOME to MASA, AdyJhb! Great to have you on-board!

Can you please elaborate more on your experience and knowledge of keeping marines? Also - can you please give us some pictures or a description of what the tank is going to look like, that is currently being built?

What have been included into the tank design? Sump? How does the sump look like? Overflow/down-pipes? CLS (Closed loop system)?

What lighting/substrate/water flow/skimmer/etc are you planning to use?

Please have a look around MASA, and perhaps get some ideas from fellow marine aquarists on how their tanks look - try and read as much as possible - and ask as many questions as you can.

    Good luck with your journey!

    Enjoy!

Thanks to everyone for the welcome wishes.

Ive been asked what setup Im looking at getting. Well, Im going big. At this point the tank is going to be custom built, 1800 x 800 x 650. with a sump beneath, so in total its about 1000l.

Its going to be a bit of a reef system. My plan is to seascape about a third of the tank and leave the rest open water...

    Any comments

Welcome to MASA, glad you joined before setting up as you'll learn to cycle the tank the right way from the beginning - read about it in the link in my signature ;)

Keep us updated, and read read read :)

also join the JHB reefclub, and meet the guys - you'll also learn a lot.

AdyJhb - this sounds great. Awesome sized system. BUT, just remember the following of a bigger system:
    - the bigger the system, the more stable it would be (changes in the water chemicals takes longer to have an impact)
    - BUT, it also takes longer and more money to filter
    - it takes longer and more money to fill up with live rock
    - it takes longer and more money to fill up with fish
    - it takes longer and more money to fill up with corals...

All of that said - I have a 2 metre tank - with a sump system that's about another 800 litres (total of +-1500 to 1600 litres of water).....

And I LOVE EVERY MOMENT of it.

If you DON'T go for the bigger system, you WILL find yourself wanting a bigger tank soon.

Just remember - w.r.t to a skimmer and water flow - the bigger the tank - the more and bigger you will need!

Just be really patient with such a sized system. It is / will be really rewarding in the end!
