    Hi all!

First off, I am not entirely new here I have just now only registered :)

I have never had any type of tank or pond but have always been extremely fascinated by this awesome hobby and have only now been able to find time (and monies) to partake.

the below pics are just a start, they are pics from the net. I will upload the pics I took later this evening.

I have decided on the following set-up:
    (Mine is ALL White)

That is a nano cube 45.
    LED Light Box (36W)
    JNS WS1 Skimmer
    Sicce M4000
    Hydor Theo 100W

All fits nicely in the supplied cabinet so its out of sight ;-)

I have assembled it all, PVC cemented the appropriate plumbing and once all dried I added water to the sump, only to realise that it had a nasty leak in one of the corners!! I ended up dumping 100 odd litres of RO water to assess, it seems to be a manufacturing fault but not entirely unfixable with some Marine Silicone. I patched it yesterday morning and after 4 hours filled it up again, all is good now. The sump is pretty much full and my make shift silicone plug worked like a charm :)

When I get home tonight I will add water to the main tank, I don't have enough to fill it but will get to about 1/3rd just to make sure nothing else is leaking. (Not blaming the product, just a bit paranoid now since I have nice wooden floors :) )

I don't know what i will be placing in this tank yet, I know that I love watching crustaceans wobble about and put garbage in their mouths, but off course I will need some shiny fish to make that garbage :)

    Stay tuned for more pics!

    Comments and suggestions are welcome!

Well it appears that this thing has sprung another leak, getting exceptionally frustrated now :-( Surely something this costly should not have 2 friggin leaks before I even get to use it :-(

I dont know how to fix this, I have mailed the place who sold it to me but they will only respond in the morning... if at all..

    More pics none the less..

I reset the camera when I was driving offroad somewhere, all by accident off course :)

I am getting a bit frustrated with this eternal leaking system though :-(

Nice looking tank.Just a pity about the leaks.I know the feeling.I helped a mate set up his new build on the weekend and we spent the whole of sunday morning chasing leaks due to old PVC glue.
Hang in I'm sure it will be a sweet looking setup once you sort out the bugs

Ok so I have drained the water... again... I will now attempt to silicone it all together. Anyone know if Bostik Marine Silicone can be used on perspex, rubber and glass?

What do you mean forgot about clycling ? Took most of the water from an existing system, plus decent LR. Tested perfect 1 week ago already, added 1 fish On Friday it was still alive on Sunday so added some more. Everything seems happy, though potential corals may not have been as colourful as they could. Hence only adding them next weekend :)

Now I need some advice on a fancy controller or just something to make it easy to read ph and temp.

    Any suggestions?

thats not cycling a system. Old water doesnt do anything to help the bacterial population, indeed if its high in Nitrates (very likely), Nitrites and possibly ammonia (depending on the state of the system it was taken from) you could well be sending that system backwards and not forwards by using it.

im afraid that testing a tank with new LR after one week and then adding fish isnt a great way to start a system and you may well be rushing this tank, regretably that normally means to fruystrations down the line.

your LR needs time to build up its bacterial populations, those bacterial populations also need time to collonise your sand bed, and then they need time to grow so that the system can handle the excess Nitrogen which invariably builds up over time.

these are all natural populations and thus they take time, with some growing fast, and then dying, others taking a slower route and then blooming.....its all constantly changing.

Most people reccomend a new tank to cycle with LR for around 5-6 weeks without ANY fish. Then add some clean up crew, then perhaps after around 7 weeks add fish slowly.

By reading this you'll realise that you are rather way ahead of your tank, and that unfortuantly normally leads the tank to get algae and difficulties if not actual loosing of fish and corals as a worse case senario.

slow down, its in your own tanks best intrest, and in your enjoyment of the system down the line.

hi and welcome to MASA. hope you enjoy your stay here:thumbup:. for the leaks i will suggest PVC weld to glue the pipes together and then also silicone to help seal it properly
