    Thanks guys.
I just googled "How much salt to add to a marine tank" & it took me to this forum / thread! - so i've joined up.

My friend just bought a house & the previous owner had a marine tank in his garage (emptied out) My friend gave it to me for nothing, as he has no interest in it.
Its a Nano Cube 24 - & it came with about £200 worth of extras (Hydro Refractometer - Hagen Suitcase full off water testers etc)

anyway, I used 350g of the Red Sea Marine salt (which was in the cupboard below the tank) per bucket of 10 litres & filled the tank up to the brim. (Approx 80 litres)

I switched the pump on & took a reading on the Refractometer - it was spot on 1.022

I set the heater to 24 degrees Cel (75 deg Farenheight)

    Whats next ?

How long do I leave it till I put live rocks in ?

    Any input much appreciated
    Cheers
    David

:welcomewave: Glad you found us, you can start your own thread as well, it might better serve your purpose there.
1.022 is an ok number in terms of salinity, just pick a number and stick to it, usually most people keep their tanks at 1.025 at 25 degrees C.
You could add your live rock immediately as you will then go through a cycle, or you could always add dead base rock along with some bacteria (not sure what you have there in terms of products) to help the seeding process, and then the waiting begins.
    Have fun.

You can put the rock in as soon as the salinity level is OK.

Just check the expiry dates on those test kits.

Well done mate and welcome to masa . Your tank should start going into a cycle now by wish the liverock , water and filtration media matures and cures . In this period , don't add livestock or coral . Bacteria will start building up , spike very high and then settle down . Once that happens you can start adding live stuff . With marines patience is the name of the game . ENJOY !!!
