    Hi everyone,

I did the set-up of my new 750 litre marine tank on the 26th of June. I bought everything from Ian Booysen at Jungle Pet Zone at Broadacres. My Nitrates, Ammonia and Phosphate levels are 0 and Ian suggested that I start adding some cleaner crew and fish to get the whole cycle started. I added 5 turbo snails, a small hermit crab and an urchin yesterday and they seem to be doing fine. I am also introducing 6 Chromis tomorrow.

My son have been running a smallish tank (about 300litre) for a couple of years and we are moving his Scopa Tang, Regal Tang and Maroon Clown as soon as the new tank is ready.

Do you think I need to add more cleaner crew at the moment? My tank is so overgrown with hair algae and I hate the sight of it. I am struggling to find Hermit Crabs in Joburg at the moment.

Welcome! Try get a sea hare, they will sort out that algae in a zip, better than any hermit or snail, I have one! Also, your tank is still young, we all have algae problems in the beggining, be patient and follow Tremayn's advice.
    don't stress and have fun!

all good and well to get a sea hare and they awesome when it comes to eating algae, but when the tank matures and the algae runs out,its gonna die unless you can provide it with the food it needs its will starve. Also when it dies it releases toxins. just my 2c.Rather find the cause of your plroblems. In a 750l your chance will be better. add a phos remover and youll see a difference in algae growth.

Just be careful, not to add too many clean up crew. Once they are enough to make a serious dent in the algae growth, its actually a sign that there are too many algae eaters. once the algae is cleared, they all will start to starve to death.

If you go for the Sea Hare, pass it on once its done its job. You do not want that to die in your tank.

Also, once you move the Scopa and Regal over, they will also munch down on the algae. So I advice, to not add extra clean up crew. First check what they do, and if they manage. If they just keep it at the level its now, its ok, Wait for the tangs to do their bit.
