    Hi All

I kept a fresh water tank for a long time but have finally switched to marine. My 2m tank is now running since February and I would like to end up with a comunity of fish and coral. Currently I have 7 small fish, 3 mushrooms and a leather that is not doing too well. As I am new to the business I need all the advice I can gather.

    Thanks
    Z

    Welcome to MASA!!

What lighting and other equipment do you have? What is not doing well, fish, coral, or both? What are your water parameters?

Just the leather that's not doing well, everything else is thriving. Running 2 banks of 1m T5's and each bank consist of 2 blues and 4 whites

Most of the time when leathers are not doing well it is a flow issue. Can you reposition the leather so that it gets more flow? Can you post a pic of the leather?

A VERY WARM WELCOME to MASA, Zarier! Great to have another Cape Town reefer on-board!

Please give us more information on your tank, as Anemone has already asked for? Please elaborate on exactly what type and how much litres per hour water flow you have in your tank (what power-heads).
Please take into account that marine fish and corals/anemone's, require very strong, turbulent, BUT very wide and dispersed water flow. Also - for a reef - (corals) - you require as much water flow as you can manage to put in..... ie. my 2 meter reef tank, has a total display water volume turnover, of +-95 times the display tank volume. (I currently have +-62000 litres per hour of water turnover in my tank).

Also - what "wattages" are your T5 globes?

What filtration do you have? Do you have a sump? A DSB? A Skimmer (what size/brand skimmer do you have?) Do you have an "algae scrubber" (ie use chaetomorpha or caulerpa macro algae to remove nutrients from the water?)

A few pictures are worth a thousand words. So - please post them photographs. Then we can assist you far better!

Good luck with the hobby! Being a marine aquarist and reefkeeper is a HUGELY addictive, and amazing hobby!

Hi Zarier, welcome to MASA - you came to the right place ;)
Can you post some pictures of your tank and sump for us? What water do you use and what do you use to top up evapourated water?

I'll leave you with these questions as Anemone and Jacques also asked a few - we don't want you to overload and trip now hey?

In order for us to help we need as much info about your tank as possible - so throw us with it :p
