I'm buzzy building a 1500 mm x 600 mm x 700 mm high. I hope some one can give me any ideas on what size sump to use and how should i use close circuit circulating pump for water movement in tank. The idea is to get rid of power heads in display tank.

hey callie.. thats a nice size im personally opting for 1.5 x .700 (maybe .800) x .600 and im looking at 2 x vortech (for random wave action) and a CLS flushing from behind my rockwork. alot can be done with a tank this size and i have seen some world class created in this space so the potential is there..

please enlighten us to other aspects like filtration and lighting as well as the theme for the tank (sps/lps or softies).

    enjoy

I thinking of using a 150 Watt MH and 3 x T5's for lighting. I going to build a nice big sump +- 900 x 450 x 400 high. Still need to find out how big DSB must be for 600 liters display tank. My goal is to have soft coral and anemones in tank with some nice fish as well.

sounds like a good start.. softues will do well in a system like that, i found 3 x 150w hailides suffiecient for that size tank in combibation with 2 x T5 blue and 2 x T10 actinic..

if you need help with the design im more than happy to help you draw something altough id have to fax it to you my sketchup skills are non existent:)

I will appreciate it if you could help me design the sump and the close loop system. My skimmer is a 1600l/h and got a 2200l/h return pump. Was also thing of building a algae scrubber witch drain in to the sump.

Hi callie!! To get the powerheads out of your display you need to build a closed loop system. Very easy and the pro's outweighs the con's compared to powerheads or anything else for that matter.

Go have a look at this link. PbH2ORet

Here they explain a Closed Loop System (CLS) in detail. I would also strongly recommend you go and select the Link on the menu on top that says "Links" and go and do some intense research. You will get allot of great ideas and better ways of doing things there.

    Hi Callie

I would suggest you invest a bit more money and get a REAL skimmer. I just dont see that skimmer sorting out a tank of your size. Something along the lines of a TS4 or DNW250 from Reefoctopus minimum or if you can afford it a Tunze or Deltec skimmer. Remember take the manufacters rating and divide by 2 to get an idea of the tank size a skimmer is rated for.

The l/h rating is the feed pump rating. It has little to do with the tank size capabilities of the skimmer.
