Morning all, got a great carpet nenni on the weekend but noticed after she settled in there was a baby nenni next to her. Is it advisable to have 2 of the same in one tank?

    Hey gman,
From loads of diving I've seen the same species in large groups together with no problems, only hassle is your new one is going to open and grow large, they might compete for the same space... hope their is room for them to space out a bit??

Thanks Brent, I have them on opposite sides of my 4ft, the momma nenni is approx 20cm & she seems settled on 1 rock but I know she will move around. Should I maybe put the baby in classifieds?

if they are genetically clones of each other which is probhably the case then you can hold on to it until it gets too big for your system, if they are genetically the same (i.e. clones) then there will be no chemical warfare at all

Isn't a carpet nennie happiest on the ground? Can you post pics for us? Are your pumps nennie safe?

Hey Tobes, I did put her on the ground but she floated around for a bit & attached to a rock, she's been there since sunday, how do I make my flow pump nenni safe, this was a concern as I check every 15-20 mins when I'm home & have the nanny checking all day when I'm at work?

bad pic but here is a "nennie proof" pump

note that this exact pump sucked my nennie in a month ago.... the nennie proofing does a couple things......

it reduces the pumps efficiency big time .... the net is too small to allow the whole nennie to be sucked in BUT does not mean the nennie will not be damaged

Happily, my nennie survived the ordeal very well, and is big and happy as always today !

The other idea is to build glass/perspecs boxes around the pumps with a slot at the back covered with netting just to be sure. The pump outlet must fit precisely in the hole of the box. It looks ugly though, unless you can paint them the same colour as your backing or hide them in the LR.

    Guys,

I have ummed and arred about posting what i am about to post, so PLEASE take this the right way and dont get all offended and stuff...... I dont want to be accused as some people have been in the recent past of being negative and a know it all....

    Just my 2c worth

PLEASE research and think about the keeping of a nennie very carefully.... They are amazing creatures, and in the wild have been know to live in excess of 100 years .... yet long term survival in our tanks are absymal at best .......

Dont get a nennie for the wrong reasons .... like needing a home for nemo! or even worse, an impulse buy. Research and understand each type of nennie and their requirements, lighting, flow, water parameters, food etc before deciding which one to buy. I have a Green Bubble Tip nennie, which is one of the easiest nennies to keep and my experiences with it certainly makes me no expert ...... but there is a reason why i chose this type of nennie ... it is suitable to the conditions that i was able to provide for it !

So in summary people i am NOT accusing anyone of not doing this research and not having the understanding, if you have questions ask on masa, pm me and i will help where i can, Anenome is an absulute guru, and should be consulted on all nennie related problems IMO...

Mods can we move this thread to the nennie forum pls?
