    Welcome dude.

You need to decide first what it is yo want to keep and then you can go ahead and setup you aquarium accordingly. Do you want fish only or fish with soft corals or hard corals etc etc.

Do lots of reading on this forum and you will find most of the advise you need. Good luck and I am sure you will enjoy.

Well, firstly you will need to decide what type of marine setup you want to have (fish only, mainly hard (SPS) corals, or a mixed reef. Depending on your decision, you will need to vary your equipment choice.

Regardless of your choice, of course, you will need a tank. I don't know what is available in India, but it must be an "all glass" type, without any metal frame. A good size would be around 1.2m (4 foot). The tank should preferably be drilled, or have a weir-type overflow, to allow water to flow down into a sump tank which is usually kept below the display tank.

You will need good pumps, a relatively large, durable one for the return pump, circulating water from the sump back up to the tank, and some power heads (or a closed loop system (CLS - do a search on MASA for more info))

You will need good, bright lights, especially if you want to keep corals. Do a search for "T5 fluorescent" and "metal halide" lights.

You will need a good quality protein skimmer - again, read up about the various models and their capabilities here on MASA.

You WILL need a reverse osmosis (RO) fresh-water filter to ensue that you only add PURE water to your tank when replacing evaporated water.

You will need unpolluted natural sea water, or a good quality synthetic salt (which you will mix with the RO water to make sea water)

You will need salt-water test kits to check the water parameters.

You will need live rock (do a MASA search) to assist in filtration and to make your tank's aquascaping look good - depending on your local regulations, you could dive and pick up the rubble rock around a reef, or you will have to buy it from an importer.

And, or course, you will need access to livestock - suitable fish and corals - again, research MASA before buying anything, just to make sure that it is compatible.

Before you do anything, spend a week or two just reading the various threads that have already been posted here on MASA - most of your questions have already been asked, and answered, in the past.

Good luck with your "new way of life" :)

    Hennie

Welcome to MASA, don't be shy to ask, we all learn each and every day...the more you ask the more you will learn, good luck in getting your tank started. I am fairly new to this lot and the biggest advice I can give you is not to be in a hurry, I know, we all want a beautiful tank and we all want it right now, but you can't have that, you have to be very patient...
